Happy ALOHA FRIDAY!!
December 14, 2022

Do you know the meaning of Aloha Friday?  It’s the end of a work week, and we can wear casual work attire, usually aloha shirts or dresses. I always sing the song to start my day.  At my last place of employment, we looked forward to Fridays! The work week was exhausting, and Fridays, well, not just another day but the start of the weekend. After work (pau hana), we would go our separate ways and spend time with family or friends. I would go home, relax, play Hawaiian music and sometimes practice my hula. I would listen to Hawaiian music while walking at Mission Bay during the summer months.  The music soothes my soul.

My Mom was born and raised on the island of Oahu, and aloha shirts and dresses were their everyday wear. With the humidity, aloha attire is the most comfortable clothing to wear year around. The men in my family could start an aloha shirt store with as many shirts as each one owns. I’ve collected a few men’s shirts because of the prints; some are collectibles. I’ve added Wikipedia’s information on the Aloha shirt. It’s a great read!

Aloha shirt. (2022, September 16). In Wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aloha_shirt

“According to some sources, the origin of aloha shirts can be traced to the 1920s or the early 1930s, when the Honolulu-based dry goods store “Musa-Shiya the Shirtmaker” under the proprietorship of Kōichirō Miyamoto, started making shirts out of colorful Japanese prints.”

So, when Fridays roll around, think ALOHA FRIDAY, wear your favorite aloha shirt, and sing the song to start your weekend.  Fridays are the motivators, and the music is the uplift to get through the day.

Until next time (A hiki i ka manawa aʻe)…

Aloha!
