I am absolutely pumped to kick off a thrilling series of interview blogs highlighting our local crafters, artists, and specialty food vendors. These individuals epitomize creativity, innovation, and talent in their respective fields. They have mastered their crafts over the years and are eager to share their expertise with the community. During my first interview, I had the pleasure of speaking with Tanya Revuelto, owner and baker of Mochilicious. Tanya specializes in a Japanese dessert called Mochi. Mochi is made by processing sweet rice, also known as mochigome, which is a type of glutinous rice. The rice is steamed and pounded using a giant mortar and pestle, and then shaped into rice cakes. Tanya was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, and currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, which is also known as the 9th Island.
Tanya’s business, Mochilicious, started unexpectedly. She couldn’t find mochi, a specialty food item, on the 9th Island of Nevada, so she began baking it for her family, friends, and parties. Tanya decided to test the market by uploading pictures and prices on the 9th Island Foodies Facebook page. The response was overwhelming, especially during the pandemic, and Mochilicious is still thriving. Tanya now sells her products at pop-up events and other events such as Aki Matsuri hosted by JFAN, Spring Festival sponsored by Kizuna, and most recently at casinos like Aliante, Sun Coast, and Santa Fe hosted by Vegas Events and More. October 21st – Aki Matsuri at Waterpark, 12pm-9pm
