Aloha! E Komo Mai!

I went to the Bellagio this weekend to visit the atrium. Every year they decorate the atrium according to a special event or season. They spare no expense to make it a top-notch, the most colorful, artistic, animated atrium in Vegas. In January, they decorate it in celebration of the Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the Rabbit.

“2023 sees in the Year of the Rabbit, which begins on January 22. In Chinese culture, the Rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace and prosperity. 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope. People born in the Year of the Rabbit are believed to be vigilant, witty, quick-minded and ingenious.”

The Chinese use red, which symbolizes luck, joy, and happiness. You will see a lot of red in the decor and beautiful flowers in the atrium. Another color is gold. Gold coins, gold accents, and sitting on top of a trove of gold coins is the statue of Caishen, the Chinese god of wealth; traditionally celebrated in hopes that he will bless the year with wealth and prosperity. Another symbol is the burning of incense. It burns at the entrance of the atrium. My spiritual belief is that burning incense symbolizes purification, especially at the door. They are purifying all visitors walking into a new year, starting fresh, leaving the former year behind.

Overall, the beautiful, vibrant flora used throughout excites me about visiting the Bellagio. The flowers they choose are always relevant to the season and the event. The combinations of colors complement each genus of flora. The sculptures are clothed in flowers, reminding me of the Rose Bowl Parade.

I highly recommend visiting the Bellagio atrium any time of the year. You will not be disappointed with the beautiful flower display all year round!

Until my next blog

Gung hay fat choy (Cantonese) for wishing you great happiness and prosperity!
